Rules -- By Cynthia Lord

I finished Rules. Such a good book. But I expected something besides anything to do with boyfriend related things, friendship troubles. Well a little bit of friendship troubles. Family troubles, rather. And, well, not a lot about boyfriend-girlfriend things, but it's mentioned. It was a good book.
First of all, I'm not that fond of Kristi. She is kind of stuck up. No. Not stuck up. Just. She is just not a person I would want to be friends with. For some reason. Not a good first impression.
And, I don't like Ryan, either. He's mean. Especially to David. And he acts so nice around Kristi, probably because they were going out, to what I understood. And he makes Catherine sound like the jerk, instead of revealing the truth about the real jerk. A mean one.
Well, I guess they are meant to have such personality. It's a book. The characters make up the plot. So, they are meant to be mean or stuck up or whatnot.

Jason is nice. I think he likes Catherine. Oh, obviously. I wonder if he will ever be able to talk. Maybe not. I don't know about stuff about people who can't talk. Or autism. I don't know if they can be cured or not. I wonder.... Anyway, ohhh..... never mind. I don't know what to say!

Oh! I love the "Rules for David" at the front of the book. It's cute. Or just funny.
And I love how David always puts a toy in the fish tank and runs to Catherine saying, "No toys in the fish tank!" It's his little way of saying that an unknown absolutely-not-a-fish thing (toy) was in the fish tank put by a mysterous little kid (him, of course). Funny.

I hope you enjoyed RULES, too!

(If you have read the book Rules by Cynthia Lord and would like to rate the book, please put the book rating in the comment box thingy. The check list thingy that says, Rate it!)

New Book -- Rules by Cynthia Lord

I just noticed - all of the books that I read have a one-word title. Inkheart, Pretties, and now, Rules. I am already reading it. You should know that, if you read the previous blog entry. =D

Rules
By Cynthia Lord

So far, the info that I know is that it is about a girl named Catherine that is twelve years old. Okay, that's not all I know. I know more. Her brother has autism. She is ALWAYS responsible for taking care of her brother and she wants some attention, too. But her parents don't seem to understand that a twelve year old needs some "caringness" from their parents. Or so she thinks.
It is a great book! So far. Let me tell you a story. And it's true, by the way. And it is the reason why I am reading this book...
In fourth grade, I went to a school called Lafayette Estates Elementary School. I had just moved there. It was a new place to me. But I had some friends. They all were living in the same apartment. So was I. I didn't know why they made all of the kids in our apartment move schools to this new school, but I found out today. Officially today. Turns out, Lafayette Estates was a new school, and they wanted students. Of course, since it is a school. So, they found out that School #14 (my old school before Lafayette) had a lot of students. They wanted a lot of new kids, (but they already had some kids in their school, I think...) so they just said (since a lot of kids in our apartment went to our school,) that all of the kids in our apartment development should move to Lafayette Estates School. And we did. My new fourth grade teacher was Mrs. Kaminsky. To what I remember. And she was a good teacher, too. She read us a book aloud, usually. It was called Rules. I liked it. But, our family had decided to move to Holmdel, the town I live in right now. Anyway, I only stayed at that very school for about a month or so. I didn't get to see Mrs. Kaminsky finish the book. I really wanted to read it. However, over the years, I forgot, and when I did remember, I forgot the title and the author, only that one of the main characters had autism. Only recently did I hear our sixth grade teacher give a list of good books (coincidentally, to read aloud to us) and a light bulb went off when I heard the title, Rules by Cynthia Lord. And that's when I remembered: that was the book that Mrs. Kaminsky read to us! I soon got the book, and here I am, reading that very book I hadn't been able to finish.

That was quite a long story. Or maybe not, compared to other books. Definitely. Back to the main subject.
Rules is a great book so far. I have a feeling that it will be a heartwarming story. Because usually, when people write about people with a sickness, or mental problem, etc., then it is usually sad or heartwarming. Or maybe not always.

I feel bad for Catherine, because her mom especially doesn't seem to care for her, only her brother. But her dad seems to understand a little bit, but doesn't have the time to actually "understand." Oh, I don't know how to explain it! But you know, how your dad is funny and stuff, and they are nice, and mom is always devoting her life on her son (not you, I mean). Not that all parents are like that. Just in stories. I think. And how dad is nice, but he just ACTS nice, but doesn't understand. Mom is not nice. Well she is, but she is too caring. For the other kid with some problems. In Catherine's life, that's just how it goes. And I would understand why they act so nice to David, after all, he has autism. He can't help taking his pants off when he spills his juice on his pants. He can't help if he thinks that a peach is a funny looking apple. That's just how it goes. For David. And it can't change, unless he gets over the whole autism.
On the other hand, I feel bad for David, too. Only the thing is, he doesn't really realize that his life is miserable. Not that I'm saying it is. Or is it? Ohhh.... It's hard to explain. ohhhh.... EVERYTHING is hard to explain.... I mean, that David doesn't feel that his life is normal or the way someone would want it to be. This is seriously hard to explain. To David's eyes, he has a perfect life. That's how his brain works. He doesn't know what retard means, and when Ryan calls him a retard laughs at him, David laughs along. Aren't jokes supposed to be funny? And when he sees Ryan again a few hours later, he acts like Ryan was his best friend. He doesn't realize that Ryan is rolling his eyes. I feel bad for him. But it wouldn't make sense. You see, I would say I don't want autism. But maybe I do. Because then, to my eyes, life would be perfect. Do you understand? So, if I felt bad for him, he wouldn't know, because I can't. There is no reason. On the outside, he seems wierd. So people feel bad. But in the inside, he is having a great time. Sort of. Not that he's ALWAYS happy or something. No. People need more than one feeling.
Okay, this is getting long. I think you read enough for today.
Expect another post coming soon!

Pretties - By Scott Westerfeld

Small apology: I am a little bit ahead of this blog. I am already on my third book. So, I need let my blog catch up, so I will summarize a week's worth blog.

So, I finished the book Pretties. By Scott Westerfeld. Of course, you know that. Obviously. If you have read this blog. And I know this is random, but it seems that only I have done the poll. If you have a favorite genre, then publish it! Mine is Fantasy, realistic fiction, and mystery. Well, you can only pick 2~3 things.... And DO NOT check all of the answers.

Is anyone reading this? Besides my family members, I mean. Ohhhh~ I don't know... It seems nobody is really reading this. PLEASE FOLLOW THIS BLOG OR WHATEVER YOU WANT, BUT JUST MAKE A NOTE SO I KNOW THAT AT LEAST SOMEONE IS READING MY BLOG. Oh,,, sorry If you are offended, but I just put it in capitals so you know I am serious.

Back to the main subject...
Pretties. I think it is a pretty good book. Although I knew what was coming up. ! WARNING: People who have not yet read the whole book pretties might consider not to read the following paragraph.! As in, skip the next paragraph.
I knew. I saw a pattern right from the second book. Or so I think.  Anyway, I noticed. First, Tally is an ugly. After a lot of things happening, (including betraying Shay,) Tally becomes a pretty. Then, in the next book she becomes a Special. Well to what I know. And I saw the "sneak peek" of the next book and it starts out with stuff like, "Tally, you smell nervous." Obviously nobody but a special would be able to smell nervousness, unless you are some amazing -- person.... or a magician, which I doubt. =D But I heard there's another book called the Extras, and I wonder what that's about... Another specimen of perfection? I don't think so, though. I think that it is like people who are not ugly or pretty. Just extra. But that sounds so cruel to call a person an extra. It sounds -- inhumane. If that's a word... =D Oops, sorry if you don't really like smiley faces... I just LOVE writing them -- I mean typing them. Back to the subject...
Okay you are now safe to read this paragraph if you have not yet read the book Pretties and want to read it. Pretties is an awesome book, and I suggest reading it. Only it has a lot of parts where Tally "sucks faces" with this one person. If you are wondering what "sucking faces" with someone is, I'll suggest, look in an idiom dictionary. I'll leave the research to you. But it is a pretty good book. And it is kind of a cool world. I wish sometimes that I could live like them for just a day or two. Feel like a character in a book. OOhhhhh~ I would really like that. But that won't happen. Maybe in a few million years or so, but I doubt in this century...

GO PRETTIES!!!!!!! haha that was kind of random...
PRETTIES IS A VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY... (oh, you get the point) GOOD BOOK!!!!!

New Book -- Pretties

New book!
Pretties
By Scott Westerfeld

I am now reading Pretties, by Scott Westerfeld.
It is a pre teen book? or was it just teen? I don't know... just reading it anyway,,,
For those who haven't read the first book in the series, read the first book. I think the second book would make much more sense if you read the first book first.
It is Uglies by Scott Westerfeld.
Oh, and by the way, the summary will include the book Uglies, too...

Summary  = It is about a girl named Tally. She lived in the future. For us, it is the future. (Heh, it's wierd that I am using the word lived for the future.) For them, it is the present. A perfectly normal life for them - with talking walls, talking rooms, interface rings, and the best of all - the surgery. This place is a world of absolute beauty. You would call it absolute beauty because -- ohhh... it's a long story...    Long ago, (for their time, which is probably still the future for us) the pollution filled the air enough. It was a second away from blowing up from too much pollution - air pollution, litter, and whatnot. Just in time, a person discovered a -- something-- that if you released it into the air, it would make the air clean again, just how it was when the dinosaurs were there (which is our past, obviously). Of course, that made a whole new world. People were making very good sure that they weren't making the huge and fatal mistake they had made a long ago. So, these people made a new thing. This new thing... will be explained in the next paragraph.
Now, back to the present day (in the book-- the book's present day, I mean). What I will explain is what I was talking about from the previous paragraph that I said I would explain. So here goes. A new world. Divided. Uglies and Pretties. Almost like semi-species. This world is extreme beauty. Whoever is normal is ugly. When you are born, you are born ugly. When you turn twelve, you become, officially, an ugly. Like a species name. An ugly. In this case, you and I are uglies. But, when you turn 16, (ha ha! sweet sixteen~! =D) you get a surgery. It makes your muscles a little bit stronger, your nose in place - perfectly, and they give you a surgery, basically, to make you pretty. From then on, you are called a pretty.
But, being perfect - isn't perfect. Just because you are pretty, how does that make you avoid revenge? Avoid violence? Avoid littering? Well, during the surgery, they also fix your brain. To make you "playful" and not-thinkingy... After the surgery, all you think of is what to wear to the next party, what new clothes you should buy. Now, in this time, that would make you sound... stuck-up. But, in this world, there is no subject of money. Nothing with trade or whatsoever. Just get. How? Real tech! Turns out, technology make everything better. There are holes in the wall that make your clothes for you, (cool ones, don't think of baggy towel-shirts... ='?) and you can just get whatever you want. No store thing or whatever. You don't go to breakfast - breakfast comes to you! The surgery keeps you in shape, by the way... You don't get overweight.
So, Tally finds out about the secret with your brain. When she is an ugly, she goes to a place where the Rusties were. (This is where we come in - we are called the Rusties. From the past.) There, she meets some pretty-runaways, who had made their own mini civilization - but only people who were ugly. So, if you leave a person ugly, then their minds become like us today! They begin chopping trees, but a little... And Tally likes it! She makes friends there, too! (okay, that previous sentence sounds like a kindergardener... but whatever) There, she found two adults who had a cure for the "brain damage." She was to become pretty, then eat the pill-cure, for a test. She had volunteered herself. So, she became pretty.
That is where the second book, Pretties starts. Where Tally eats the pills, and discovers a whole new world of betrayal (which she did already in the book before, but I just didn't mention it... you don't need TOO much detail). Not BETRAYAL betrayal, but -- I can't tell you. You'll find out!
I'm reading it, too!

Inkheart-- ending

Okay, just so you know, I am making a change of plans. I apologize for how long I haven't written in this blog. Well, actually a few weeks. You've probably been waiting a lot... (just sarcasm... I doubt anyone is reading this and waiting for it... except maybe my family members...) Anyway, back to the change of plans. This is the first month, so there will be a lot of changing and organizing going on,,, just to warn you. I have decided that I'm not going to go TOO detailed. Then it would be basically writing the whole book... which would not be something you would want in a blog... you could just borrow it from the library~... =D
Anyway... Inkheart... I haven't been on this blog... but I have been writing.  I sometimes write (usually) in my notebook and then copy that onto the blog.
Inkheart ended the way I wanted. Not exactly, because Basta got away, and so did the Magpie. That probably leads to the next book... Inkspell, or was it Inkdeath? I think Inkdeath is the third book. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Inkspell is the second book. Anyway... (I am writing a lot of "anyways")
Also, Dustfinger, somehow, gives an impression upon me as a bad guy. Not those bad BAD guys like Capricorn, but ...            Do you know what a but not is? Scared is frightened, but not horrified. Horrified is related to scared, but it isn't exactly the meaning of scared. Therefore, horrified is a but not of scared. You might think this has nothing to do with the previous conversation, but now I shall mention...             Dustfinger is a but-not of a bad guy, such as Capricorn. Do you know what I mean? I hope you do... He is like a person who supports someone when he needs to, but when it comes to betrayal, he is an expert. Actually, not an expert, but he is "good at" betraying. For example, Dustfinger (at the end...) stole Mo's book (Inkheart). He shouldn't have, but he did, for his sake. To take himself back to his own world... I think. I don't know if what Meggie told him (that he was to die in the book) really changed his mind. He seems like he still wants to go back to his book.

Overall, Inkheart is a GREAT BOOK!

If you haven't read it, then go ahead! Nothing to harm you! Although I suggest if you don't like Fantasy books, I don't think you would enjoy it much. (From an experience... Someone told me that they didn't like the book... at ALL... which seemed frugal, but people have different opinions, after all...)
If you HAVE read this book, there is the rating thing under this blog entry. Rate it! not on this entry, but on the book. A special rating thingy, you would call it. (=O thingy is not such a good word, but I'm using it anyway... XD)
Hope you enjoyed it!

Chapter 39 and 40

Inkheart

Chapters 39 and 40

I think Resa (the person that helped Dustfinger) is Meggie's mom....
And, I think she won't get executed...

I thought absentmindedly, this would be really cool if it were made into a movie! And then I realized that it was already a movie... I should watch it after I finish the book.

Elinor is rough on the outside. She is always tough. But her emotions are almost so kind and her mind is not mean or what you would usually think. She is nice. I think... To what I noticed...
And as I read more and more through the book, I realized that Capricorn is not good looking. I always imagined him somewhat good looking, since he was some kind of rulers and in movies (I know, you can't always depend on movies), they are good looking. In this book, Capricorn is actually a devil (if you know what I mean) and looks like one, too, according to the part when Meggie goes into the Magpie's room and sees the portrait of him... The description was - descriptive, and boy did he sound - disgusting...
Well...
As I always say,
THIS BOOK IS SOOOO GREAT SO FAR!!!
You should seriously read it, if you aren't... ^^

January 4, 2010- InKhEaRt Chapter 23-A Night full of Words

Inkheart--
Dustfinger is suddenly a little bit selfish. Not selfish,,, but somehow like a master - to Farid. He treats him as a servant. A servant he doesn't really care much of, but cares for at the same time, if you know what I mean...
I noticed that Farid is very eager to go along with Dustfinger. Why? Maybe the fire astonishes him. Maybe he likes Dustfinger;s "brave" acts. Maybe he likes his horned marten. I think he likes Dustfinger because he doesn't treat Farid as harshly as, probably, his former "masters." I don't think he ever tasted freedom, by himself what he wants (Farid).

Predictions-
The part when Mo tries to reach the author of Inkheart-
I think that the person would not have the book.
Prediction correct.

This prediction goes way to the end, because I still haven't been able to do anything to prove it or whatever...
I think that Fenoglio will rewrite the book with Capricorn dead so Mo can read the bad ending...

W1- Inkheart- STILL

Ohhh...
I read Inkheart, but not all of it...
I have SO much to do. Actually, not much, but not enough time. I am going to write two times a week, or try to. The title will be for the day I am setting it for. I write my blog stuff "to-write" in another notebook, so even if I don't have time, I can just write in my notebook and later, would post it on the blog.
So far, Inkheart is fun.
First, it was fun. Then, it started getting a little bit boring. You know, the usual: they go outside, get away. But when this one character (I'm not telling you who, because you might not have gotten up to it, and I don't remember what chapter it is in) shows up and twists the story a bit, things get back to normal - fun and exciting...
INKHEART IS THE BEST!!
Though I noticed at school yesterday, some people don't like it... :( Sad for them, not to offend anyone, but I guess they don't take much of fantasy books like this.
Sorry for the delay, if you were waiting.
But I doubt anyone would be reading this...

And, I have something to say, if you are listening... I thought I would read at least one book per week (because I usually do), but I can't seem to end Inkheart. Maybe this book is long.   ........ Of course it is! =D
I thought I was near the end - I realized I read less than half of the book. I'm still wondering what the other half would be filled with. The plot moves along slowly, everything in great detail...
Whew~
This goal might just be a little extravagant... But it CAN somehow be possible - I mean, it IS possible! I think... =]

Day one: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Happy New Year!
And happy first-day-of-reading-project!
How time flies so quickly...
I have started reading my book. Actually, a few days ago, but I will count this book as one of the 55 books I will read.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am warning you, if you don't want the story to be spoiled by me and my writing (actually text), then you better read the book as you read this blog. I will write a quick summary of so far, and I will also write observations and whatnot... It will also tell you what chapters I read, because the entries will be on those chapters.

Inkheart by Cornelia Funke.

It is probably a fantasy book, because so far, evil people, people who can eat fire, as well as otherworld creatures are jumping out of books in the story.
I noticed that all, no, most fantasy books are long. Lord of the Rings, Hobbit, Harry Potter, and now, Inkheart. They are long because, I'm guessing, the author has so much to tell in their book. Writing is almost like making your own world. It comes out of your mind, out of your head. You can make the bad guy how you like, or you can make a happy ending. No one can stop you from making your own world on paper. That is one reason I like writing and reading books. Not that I'm a professional author, no. I just write my own little stories which turn out the way I want them to.

Inkheart- Chapters 1 ~ 16

This won't be some fantastic summary that will go on for millions of pages, but a simple summary. Since, whoever you are, you are reading Inkheart, up to chapter 16, I don't really need to introduce the characters very well. There is Meggie, Mo, Dustfinger, Elinor, Capricorn, Basta, and, of course, many others.
I am wondering how the story is going to end, and I have just barely a blurry image of the actual problem in the story. I know, though. I know a little bit how it is going to end, because the book told me. That wouldn't make sense. On the back cover of the book, the summary told me that... Should I tell you? Oh, I might as well spill the beans. If you don't want to know, then skip the rest of this paragraph. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ... ... ... ... .... ..... ...... .......  .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..It said that she had to rewrite        the story. I am guessing the second story would be called Inkspell (it's just a prediction), which is also the next book to this book, the sequel. My prediction is that Meggie has to rewrite the story and make a bad ending for Capricorn and his subjects, and Mo would read the story aloud to Capricorn, which makes the same thing in the book happen to him.
So far, this story is very exciting! One thing for sure, I feel bad for Dustfinger. He must be so desperate to go back into his world, or rather, book, since he followed Capricorn's order. Not that he wouldn't, because everyone can easily fear people like Capricorn.
Another thing for sure, I hate Capricorn. No, maybe hate is a too much of a strong word. I greatly too much despise and loathe Capricorn. I do not like people who are mean and demanding and EVIL. But Capricorn plays an important part of the story, so he is conspicuous, not the easily seen conspicuous, the prominent conspicuous, if you go by definitions.
Not much to say, besides what I just typed. ^.^
So far, this book is a 10 out of 10!
